The Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark is an open-air museum of basalt columnar jointing and canyons left by volcanic activity hundreds of thousands of years ago. In the Yeoncheon area, Jaein Falls and the Imjin River red cliffs are the highlights.

Must-see spots
Jaein Falls: an ~18 m waterfall dropping over a basalt columnar cliff. View the canyon from the deck and the suspension bridge.
Imjin River red cliffs: vertical basalt columns lining the river like a folding screen — especially beautiful in autumn.
Walking tips
The trails are well maintained; sneakers are enough. Watch for heat and shade in summer, and ice in winter.
Jaein Falls has opening hours and an entrance fee, so check before visiting.
